Controversial Pizza Toppings

It's World Pizza Day today, so we have compiled a list of some of the most controversial pizza toppings!

It’s World Pizza Day today! Many of us love a good pizza, however, we all have different opinions on what makes a good pizza. Some of us love certain flavours and ingredients on our pizzas, while others might detest them. So, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most controversial pizza toppings!

Pineapple

For some reason, there has been a rapid increase in pineapple on pizza haters in recent years. It’s understandable though, some people just don’t like the sweet taste of this juicy fruit on their pizza. But we here at Teacher PD are all in agreeance, we love pineapple on our pizzas!

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a controversial vegetable at the best of times. It’s one of those foods that you either love or you hate. It seems the humble pumpkin is just as controversial as a pizza topping.

Barbecue Sauce

There are many pizza varieties out there that use barbecue sauce as a topping or a base sauce. Some people believe moving away from the classic tomato base is a crime against pizza but others absolutely love the barbecue sauce addition.

Seafood

This is one of the more controversial toppings; you either love it or hate it. Aside from anchovies, seafood is not a traditional pizza topping but we have seen many modern pizzas adored with prawns, salmon and even tuna. Whether you like seafood or not, it’s definitely a controversial pizza topping.

Aioli

The rise in popularity of aioli in recent years has also seen more and more pizzas featuring aioli as a topping. You often see pizzas topped with a swirl of the white garlic sauce or even mayonnaise. But some believe the creaminess of aioli contrasts too heavily against the other ingredients on a pizza, hence dubbing it a controversial pizza topping.

All of these ingredients have become controversial pizza toppings for various reasons. Whether you love or hate them, the best part about pizzas is you can choose what toppings to keep and what to exclude!
