Childhood trauma comes to school with the children who are living with it.  It is much more common than you might imagine.  Yet there is very little information about how trauma affects children available to those in the education system.  There is a lot of focus on positive behaviour for learning type initiatives in schools as a way to manage children’s behaviour.  These programs have their place but they are not trauma informed and are simply ineffective for some children.  A trauma lens gives teachers another tool through which to consider student behaviour and a new and different set of tools with which to manage student behaviour.
