It’s time to whip yourself up some delicious guacamole because today is Guacamole Day! Guacamole is commonly associated with some of our favourite Mexican dishes after it was invented by the Aztecs back in the 14th century. They called it guacamole, which literally translates to avocado sauce.
All good guacamole recipes include avocado of course, tomato, onion, lime juice and a bit of jalapeno if you like your spice. Some modern recipes even include sour cream, garlic and lemon juice. Guacamole is often used as just one ingredient of many in a raft of tasty recipes. So, here are five Guacamole Day inspired recipe ideas to try in your Food Technology practicals, or to keep to yourself!
Burgers
The extra flavour that guacamole offers can improve a regular old burger out of sight! Simply whip up some guacamole and add it to your favourite burger or follow this delicious recipe!
Smashed Avo on Toast
Level up your smashed avo on toast by trading your regular smashed avo for guacamole! You could also add a bit more flare to your newly improved smashed avo on toast by adding a poached egg, salmon or feta cheese as well.
Stuffed potatoes
Stuffed potatoes are already a good time but adding a bit of guacamole takes them up another notch. This recipe touts a loaded guacamole with tomato, onion, corn and black beans served inside a roasted potato. Yum!
Salads
Guacamole makes a great, albeit a bit cheeky, addition to any healthy salad. However, this interesting take on a guacamole salad sees the guacamole remain ‘deconstructed’, tossing together chunks of avocado, tomato and onion and seasoning it with chilli, coriander and lime juice.
Guacamole Fries
These fries certainly are an interesting and different way to eat guacamole. If they are not quite to your liking though, you could simply whip up some guacamole to dip your regular potato fries in!
