Design Brief:

Pets make excellent companions and the value that they add to their owner’s lives is immeasurable.

However, things do not always work out as planned and sometimes pets will need to be re-homed. This can often involve a stay in an animal shelter or some time in an animal rescue facility.

Many of these facilities are operated by volunteers and a majority of the running expenses are spent feeding the animals.

Your task is to design and produce a textile item that will bring joy or comfort to an animal living in a care facility.

All projects must abide by the following constraints to be acceptable for an animal shelter:

QUALITY: Projects must be finished to a high standard and should show evidence of appropriate construction methods.

SAFETY: Projects must be pet friendly; no embellishments or choking hazards can be included.

SUSTAINABLE: Projects should be created with recycled or repurposed fabric where possible and the incorporation of an up-cycled element is favourable.

This bundle also includes 12 additional resources including extra activities, PowerPoints, and patterns.

    • testing fabric durability through abrasion tests
    • performance testing of fabrics through moisture absorbency and resistance tests

Producing

Students:

  • plan and organise the stages involved in the design and production of a textile item to ensure quality completion, for example: (ACTDEK047, ACTDEP052)
    • progress journal
    • student blog
