Description

This course is for teachers interested in or supporting a child who has social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The course aims to move away from supporting children according to their medical diagnosis and use of template interventions and move towards understanding the child and their unique traits to best support them.

The course breaks down the four primary emotions that underpin behaviour and details how to support children depending on the underlying emotion they may be feeling.

A seven-step strategic problem-solving model is detailed which can focus the minds of the core team supporting a child and guide them successfully through a process which will increase the chances of a successful outcome.

This content is suitable to support children of all ages and is an ideal support to teachers who may be feeling stuck, frustrated or helpless in their pursuit to help a child with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Session 1

 This session aims to:

  • Define the four primary emotion that underpins behaviour.
  • Discuss how behaviour can be viewed through these emotions.
  • Explore the importance of discovering the underlying emotion behind behaviour.
  • Equip teachers with strategies to use according to each emotion.

Session 2

This session aims to:

  • Layout the seven-step problem solving model.
  • Explain each step and the theory behind it.
  • Empower teachers to create their own strategies and interventions suited to the specific child they are supporting.

Includes a  7-page booklet to utilise in meetings to guide teachers and the wider team through the problem-solving model.

I found this course really informative and it gave me a fresh perspective on how to view different behaviours in the classroom. It was practical and accessible and I can see myself applying the suggested problem solving model moving forward.
