Product Description

The new Technology Mandatory syllabus has been released ready for implementation in 2019. This course has been designed to provide some potential planning resources and inspiration for the introduction of the Material Technologies context area with a textiles focus.This course may be interesting to those teachers who wish to develop student’s practical skills to produce textile items with traditional and contemporary production processes. The course will include project ideas, units of work and proposed work samples. Teachers will gain a clear understanding of how surface preparation techniques can enhance textile items and they will uncover a range of creative design approaches. Teachers who are interested in inspiring and engaging their students for future Textiles study in Stage 5 and Stage 6 may be interested in this course.As a university lecturer and experienced teacher, I can provide you with some tips and strategies to engage your students in studying the new syllabus in the following sessions:

  • Assessing textiles projects with differentiation strategies

Completing Technology Mandatory – Material Technologies – Textiles Focus will contribute 5 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 2.1.2 and 6.2.2, from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

6.2.2 Proficient Level – Participate in learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and school and/or system priorities.

Session 1 – MEETING NEW SYLLABUS OUTCOMES

Session 2 – COMMUNICATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN IDEAS

  • Introduction to a possible design brief idea and sharing resources and ideas that support this.
  • Assisting students to show their design ideas with the use of appropriate technical terms and metalanguage through worksheets and scaffolds.
  • Supporting students to show their design thinking skills in the production of a textile project.

Session 3 – SOLUTIONS TO DESIGN BRIEF SUGGESTIONS

  • Supporting the investigation of products for the individual/community considering ethical and social factors.
  • Discover production processes in a variety of textile projects.
  • Explore design project samples and consider the use of these solutions in your own school.

Session 4 – ASSESSING TEXTILE PROJECTS WITH DIFFERENTIATION STRATEGIES

  • Aiding students to understand the characteristics and properties of textiles materials.
  • Group assessment of designed solutions.
  • Understanding the marking criteria for the textiles solutions and supporting students to succeed.
