Description

An engaging activity to help teachers understand their student’s literacy needs.

This resource was created to assist teachers to gain a better understanding of the literacy capabilities of their students. This activity is designed to be displayed on the board to the class, or printed individually and handed to students.

The students are then asked to choose an image from the options and write as much information as they can about the image. Students may recall their prior knowledge and experiences with this image, or they can choose to write from a narrative perspective. The images are to be used as a writing prompt. All student responses will differ significantly.

The teacher may choose to collect the student responses as evidence of the student’s literacy capabilities. Teachers can then determine the literacy needs of their students. This can be a fun and creative activity for students and can be used as an informal assessment of student literacy. It may be repeated at various times to gauge literacy growth.

Pack Includes:

  • 1-page literacy challenge prompt sheet
  • Teacher instructions
