If you are in need of a variety of resources for running a CO2 Dragster or Pitsco Racer unit for Stage 4 Technology Mandatory Engineering, you may find this resource useful. This set of resources are not designed to be printed as a booklet to hand out to students. The worksheets and activities should be used independently of each other to provide a teacher delivering a CO2 Dragster unit of work a variety of resources to assist in delivering a unit of work where the CO2 Dragsters project (also known as the Pitsco Racers Project) is being completed. The activities cover a variety of aspects of the project such as a worksheet to calculating average speeds, designing sheets, sheets such as find-a-words for early finishers and other research activities that could be used as extra or cover lessons should the teacher be absent.
The page numbers at the bottom of each page are to help indicate if there should be more than one page printed for distribution. Pages which are for sample solutions for the teacher do not have page number to help avoid confusion with student intended sheets.
What is included in this product.
1.1 and 1.2 – 27 Glossary terms related to engineering principals and aerodynamics. Activities 1.1 and 1.2 includes the terms and a definition of each and a student version where students can copy the definition.
1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 – Activities 1.3 and 1.4 are for testing knowledge prior to and after the teaching unit. The pre and post tests could alternatively be used as a homework task, at the start and end of the unit of work, as an extra activity for early finishers or as a supplement activity for a casual or cover teacher.
1.6 – Information pages for students to read individually or in the class setting to introduce concepts of forces which act upon a car.
1.7 and 1.8 – The Basla Wood information page could be used during this unit of study or for other timber courses as a research activity. The resources include information for students to read and questions relating to the text. There is also a map for students to label.
1.9, 1.10, 1.11 and 1.12 – Two versions of a find-a-word activity which could be used for differing ability levels. Answer sheets are included for the teacher. These activities would suit homework tasks, early finishers or for casual or extra cover lessons.
1.13 – This activity is a research task where students could use the internet to gather information or it could be used as a creative writing task following a class discussion or provision of other stimulus material.
1.14 – Information pages for students to read individually or in the class setting to introduce concepts of forces which act upon a car.
1.15 and 1.16 – This information sheet provides some specifications or limitations that the students designs should adhere to. The second sheet, 1.18 is blank to provide the teacher an opportunity to make some changes to the sizes or for students to write information.
1.17 and 1.18 – 2 versions of a steps of construction pages. The teacher may select 1.17 OR 1.18 to provide to the class depending on the teachers preference.
2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 – These activities are for designing of the shape of the car.dragster.
3.1 and 3.2 – Maths worksheets to help lead students to understand how to determine the speed of their cars during testing. Two worksheets are included. One in MPH and one in Km per hour.
