Barbie Outfit Design Challenge
Unleash your student’s creativity and dive into the world of Barbie and fashion illustration with this engaging and educational teaching resource. Designed to align seamlessly with the NSW NESA Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019), this resource is a fun introduction to understanding textile properties, material selection, and textile design concepts.
Syllabus Outcomes Addressed:
TEX5-1: Exploring Textile Properties and Performance
TEX5-2: Justifying Textile Material Selection
TEX5-4: Generating and Developing Textile Design Ideas
This design challenge offers textile students the opportunity to design an outfit for Barbie or Ken to wear to a formal event, the beach and to a category of their choice, e.g., to go shopping or to a sports game. Additionally, students can design an outfit for themselves or a friend to wear to the movie premiere. This allows students to explore the importance of fashion design in relation to movie premieres like Barbie and how this impacts a movie’s success. It also gives students an opportunity to practice their fashion illustration skills which will support their Textiles learning progression.
Students are also asked 8 questions related to justifying material selection, elements of design allowing them to explore their evaluation skills. Nurture your students’ creativity, critical thinking, and design skills with the Barbie Outfit Design Challenge all while addressing key outcomes outlined in the NSW NESA Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019). Get ready to witness the transformation of Barbie ideas into stunning fashion illustration creations.
