Students will embark on a thrilling task to design the official uniforms for Australia’s pride – The Women’s Soccer Team, The Matildas. With a focus on Australia’s signature colours of green and gold, students will channel their creative energies into designing uniforms that are not only visually appealing but also both functional and sport-appropriate.

Students begin by brainstorming patterns and ideas for the uniform designs. They will need to consider the art of marrying comfort with style to create innovative training gear considering the importance of how their uniform design will allow the athletes to best compete in their sport.

Aside from designing the official match jerseys, students will also have the opportunity to evaluate the importance of a uniform in the context of sport. Then they can dive into the creation of iconic match jerseys that reflect the spirit and integrity of The Matildas.

Syllabus Outcomes:
This resource helps students meet the following dot points:

TEX5-1 explains the properties and performance of a range of textile items

HOW: Students will explore and explain the properties and performance of textile items used in sports attire.

TEX5-2 justifies the selection of textile materials for specific end uses

HOW: Students will have the opportunity to justify the selection of specific textile materials for the needs of players in official matches.

TEX5-4 generates and develops textile design ideas

HOW: Students will generate and develop unique textile design ideas that embody the spirit of Australian soccer.
